Shared Web Hosting, Virtual Private Server (VPS) or A Dedicated Server ?

In the web hosting industry there are three popular packages that make up traditional web hosting. In this blog posting you will discover what shared, VPS and dedicated web hosting.

Shared web hosting is perhaps the most bought and sought after web hosting package for websites, like blogs or personal sites that do not expect a lot of traffic, that is available today. The best feature about shared hosting is the price tag, as it is the cheapest web hosting package, other than free web hosting, that is available in the web hosting industry. Although shared hosting is popular because of its cheap price tag, there are also some negatives to consider. For example, you share your website also means that you share resources and an operating system. These results in performance issues because you are affected by the bad behavior and resource hogs that are on your server.

VPS, or virtual private servers, are servers that have been virtually partitioned to provide a secluded space for your website to reside on. This means that you will have your own operating system that will be completely separate from others on the server. In addition you will have full control, so that you get the same great benefit of having a server all to yourself. There are not a whole lot of negatives to say about VPS hosting, only that you do not get as many resources that say dedicated hosting offers, however, VPS hosting does allow you to scale your resources so that you can add as you go so that you are never with more than you need.

Dedicated Servers are for larger sites and offer a full list of benefits that having a server to you can provide. Having a dedicated server for your website means that all of the resources are yours and are absolutely guaranteed. This also means that you have complete privacy and security because no other sites will be on your server. Not to mention that dedicated servers give you the full control over your website, meaning that you can download scripts, modules and add functionality to your website and server as you see fit. The only downside of hosting on a dedicated server is that the price is very expensive.
